    From village to neighbourhood

Echo Place was incorporated in 1865 east of Brantford and grew up around the Springbrook Hotel. An 1891 business directory listed a general store and post office, a nursery and an oatmeal mill. In 1955 the village was amalgamated into the City of Brantford.

    The homes

Colborne Street East carries much of the neighbourhood's housing. Recent listings here range from a 2.5-storey double-brick home with high ceilings on a double lot, to condo apartments, bungalow-style condo townhomes, and a newer townhome development called Echo Park Residences. If you are looking at an older brick home, plan for a licensed inspection.

    Parks, schools and everyday needs

The City's parks map shows Dogford Park nearby, and listings in the area point to Woodman Park Community Centre and Echo Place Public School. Listing descriptions mention shopping and restaurants along Colborne Street and the Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Public English schools in Brantford are run by the Grand Erie District School Board, and Catholic English schools by the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. French-language boards also serve the area.

School assignments depend on your exact address and can change. Always confirm the assigned schools for a specific property with the school board before you make an offer.

    Getting around

A recent listing in the neighbourhood describes Garden Avenue as the most easterly Highway 403 exit in Brantford and notes transit close to the front door. The downtown core is west along Colborne Street, across the Grand River.
