About Paris
Paris sits where the Nith River empties into the Grand River, just northwest of Brantford. It is the largest community in the County of Brant, with 14,956 residents in the 2021 census, and it became part of the county when the town amalgamated in 1999.
The town started as a settlement called the Forks of the Grand, founded in 1829 around local gypsum deposits, which gave Paris its name through plaster of Paris. Harrowsmith magazine once voted it the Prettiest Little Town in Canada, and its heritage includes cobblestone buildings and the Paris Old Town Hall.
Outdoors, the Cambridge to Paris Trail runs 18 km through the area as part of the Trans Canada Trail, and Lions Park on the Nith River has trails of its own. Public schools are run by the Grand Erie District School Board, with Paris District High School serving as a regional secondary school. Always confirm the assigned school for a specific address.
