A town built on two rivers

Paris began as a settlement called the Forks of the Grand, founded in 1829 by developer Hiram Capron to take advantage of local gypsum deposits. Gypsum is used to make plaster of Paris, which is where the town's name comes from.

Today the downtown sits along the banks of the Grand River. In 1999 the town government amalgamated into the County of Brant, ending 149 years as a separate municipality.

    Architecture and character

Harrowsmith magazine once voted Paris the Prettiest Little Town in Canada. The town's heritage includes cobblestone buildings, the Paris Old Town Hall, and a Carnegie library that is now the Paris branch of the County of Brant Public Library.

    Outdoors

The Trans Canada Trail runs through the area, including the Cambridge to Paris Trail, which stretches 18 kilometres between the two communities. Lions Park, just across the Nith River from downtown, has the Nith River and Distillery Lane trails.

    Schools

Public schools in Paris are run by the Grand Erie District School Board. Paris District High School serves as a regional secondary school for Paris and other Brant County communities, including Burford and St. George.

School assignments depend on your exact address and can change. Always confirm the assigned schools for a specific property with the school board before you make an offer.
